Dear President :

My name is Álvaro García, I am addressing to you, as a Spanish student who is also an activist pro-Human Rights and a blogger.

I am concerned about the imprisonment of the activists Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli, which were sentenced on 11 November 2009 to two and two and a half years in prison respectively, charged with “hooliganism” after reporting being assaulted in a restaurant in Baku.

International Amnesty, Reporters Without Borders, and the Swedish Presidency of the European Union, have all expressed their concern about the arrest of this two activist, having their doubts about the fairness of the trial they had, because of the use of practices like rejecting footage with evidence about the injuries they both suffered at the fight, and because of the fact that a week before their detention they had published a video which was critic with the government.

I am sure, and so is also the rest of the public opinion of the World, that this facts will be personally review by you, the President of Azerbaijan, and that they will be immediately and unconditionally released without any charges.

Please let me know when this two peaceful activists are set free or if there are any changes in their cases.

Sincerely Yours,

Álvaro García

Letter to the Prince of Denmark

This is the letter I wrote to the Prince of Denmark asking him to release four Greenpeace activist that were detained at a non-violent protest in Copenhagen.

Your Majesty :

My name is Álvaro García, I am addressing to You, Your Majesty, as a Spanish citizen, a citizen that until a few weeks ago considered the country that You represent, the Kingdom of Denmark, one of the most advanced democracies in the world, and, without any doubt, one of the best countries in the world to live.

However, recently, because of what happened at COP 15, many of us have seen some actions on behalf of the Danish Government that have disappointed us.

For example, indiscriminate police strikes, although, in some cases, the protesters were aggressive, and their detention might have been fair and justified.

But even given the fact that some protesters were aggressive, most of the European public opinion thinks that it’s not enough motive to ride them by bus, to both violent and pacific protesters, and get them into detention centers out of Copenhagen, where they suffered the treatment that I wish to put into consideration of Your Majesty : deprivation of the use of the bathroom, deprivation of medical attention, and deprivation of water.

I am specially addressing to Your Majesty this pledge because of the four Greenpeace activist -one of them Spaniard, because I am convinced that Your Majesty will take this matter into consideration and Your Majesty can help us forget this misunderstanding.

I am sure that Your Majesty will intercede in the release of the activists Juan López de Uralde, Nora Christiansen, Christian Schmutz and Joris Thijssen. Activist that, in a country that is envied for it’s high quality of life, and for their many rights and freedoms, could be condemned to an imprisonment of up to six years because of a non violent protest which only objective was to make an appeal to all world leaders meeting in Copenhagen.

I can only speak by myself, but I am convinced that this is the hope of a big part of the Spaniard and European society. That is the reason why we, the public opinion, are so sure that Your Majesty will intercede on behalf of the activist of Greenpeace.

Worldwide public opinion hopes that they are released to avoid that many of us, disappointed, will change our minds from considering Denmark the paradise of every ecologist to the nightmare of every pacifist or activist.

Confident in receiving from Your behalf, Your Majesty, a written reply, or, speaking on behalf of worldwide activist, we hope that Your Majesty can intercede in the release of the four activist retained, releasing them without charges.

Yours respectfully,
